Dance Music Research Task

All of these music videos fit into the dance music genre because they all have high energy movements. The actors featured in the videos also do not sing along to the the lyrics of the song like a lot of pop music videos do. The focus more on the dance element of the music. None of the music videos feature the artists again to focus the attention on the dance element of the music. The videos all have bright colours to represent the high energy music.  In the Sigala video there is not much representation, regarding race, until around half way through the video. Until that point the only people seen are young white men and women. Although they are from different social groups, for example there is a couple fo people that are doing tricks on BMXs and the main feature is a girl on roller-skates. There is also a couple of dancers that are represented. There is then seen a mother and son walking down the street which gives representation to a different race not seen in th...

Advertising Question

Explain how representations in adverts are constructed to promote the product. Choose two of the adverts you have studied. In the Old Spice advert, the product is promoted in an unusual way. This is achieved through the positioning of random items with each other, such as Isiah Mustafa on a white stallion, holding a bottle of Old Spice shampoo on a handful of diamonds. The advert also takes place on a beach. They only part of the advert that relates to the product is the speech and the actual product that is featured. This creates a unique feel about the product and allows it to stand out from regular grooming product adverts. Most video advertisements show the product being used and the benefits gained from using the product. Old Spice stray extremely far from the norm by very seldom mentioning the product, only that it will turn you into a ‘proper’ man . This abstract representation of the product promotes it positively and effectively as it remains in the minds of the audience ...

1. What are the songs about? Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack is a song about not getting over a relationship. She is unable to move on from the relationship which is suggested by the music video when she is oblivious to everything around her. This relationship is the only thing she can think about. Burn the Witch by Radiohead is a song about a group of people that want to kill a witch. It has a connection with a fear of outsiders and the group of people do not want any "different" people to be with them. This relates to the video as well as the band have said that the video is about the European refugee crisis. 2. What messages do they convey to the audience? Unfinished Sympathy conveys a message that love takes over and it is the only thing that people care about when they are in it. This is shown by Shara's ignorance of everyone and everything around her. Burn the Witch conveys the message that we, as people, have a fear of...

American Beauty - Scene Analysis

Representation: Within the scene, Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) is presented to us in a very negative way. He is seen to be a 'loser' that isn't able to stand up for himself and appears weak. This is seen when he is belittled by his wife but doesn't do anything about it. Lester appears disengaged from not only his family but also from himself. The relationship between him and his family seems nearly non-existent, as suggested when his daughter tells him that he hasn't spoken to her in months. Lester is also represented as depressed. His attitude and personality make it appear as though he has depression. Another way that Lester is presented is in a childish way. He acts submissively, like a child would, and excuses himself from diner, grumpily, by saying 'I'm going to get some ice cream'. This is a childish thing to do.  Lester's wife, Carolyn, is represented as old-fashioned, powerful and dominant. She appears to b...

1 . Why's THAT in the test? Britain's stressed out teenagers complain about the impossible GCSE questions they couldn't possibly have prepared for The images in this article are examples of Twitter posts created by teenagers after their  GCSE examinations. It creates the impression that all teenagers were having these feelings and thoughts towards the exam questions. It makes it seem as though teenagers all had a pessimistic view towards their exam. It tells the readers of the article that teenagers are full of negativity. Positive words and phrases: None. Negative words and phrases: s tressed, annoyed, bemused, dumbfounded, fuming.
