Dance Music Research Task

All of these music videos fit into the dance music genre because they all have high energy movements. The actors featured in the videos also do not sing along to the the lyrics of the song like a lot of pop music videos do. The focus more on the dance element of the music. None of the music videos feature the artists again to focus the attention on the dance element of the music. The videos all have bright colours to represent the high energy music. 

In the Sigala video there is not much representation, regarding race, until around half way through the video. Until that point the only people seen are young white men and women. Although they are from different social groups, for example there is a couple fo people that are doing tricks on BMXs and the main feature is a girl on roller-skates. There is also a couple of dancers that are represented. There is then seen a mother and son walking down the street which gives representation to a different race not seen in the video before. A homeless man is also seen which is stereotypical for an urban landscape. There is diversity seen at the end of the video with a group of girls from different ethnic backgrounds seen roller-skating down a street. This video will appeal to young people and probably more girls than boys because the video prominently features girls.

The MK video is very representational regarding age and gender, however there is no representation of different races, only African. This may be playing to stereotypes of this group of people living in less well-off urban areas unlike the Sigala video which is blatantly more affluent. The MK video is depicting an accurate representation of this location. There are many different ages of people that are not represented in the Sigala video. The target audience of this video will probably be people who can relate to this video and the scenarios in it.

The CamelPhat and Elderbrook video has a lot of representation of ethnicity and there are actors from different backgrounds. However, there is no representation of different genders or ages as they are all young females - this is not usually prominently represented though. Representations usually focus on white men and so having these different representations of people that do not fit into this category is a good thing. This appeals to a target audience of probably young girls who can aspire to have the look they have in this video.

These are two other music videos from the dance genre. They fit into this because like the other three they have bright colours and high energy movements to go with the energetic music. However, they both have subjects that sing the lyrics of the song and the Sigala one features Ella Eyre in the video, who sings the lyrics on the actual song. However they do both maintain the focus on the dance element of the music.
