Top 5 TV Dramas

Stranger Things

Stranger Things is an intense, thrilling series about a group of friends that go searching for their friend Will who mysteriously disappeared without a trace. This is one pf my favourite TV dramas due to its gripping plot. It constantly left me with questions and I couldn't stop watching until I'd finished the entire series. It very deservingly became one of the most talked about TV shows last year. The show and its actors won four awards and was nominated for many, many more. Hype is now building up once again for the show as series two is being released on Netflix on 27th October 2017.

Broadchurch

Broadchurch quickly became one of my favourite shows when series one was released back in 2013. It came as no surprise to me when it returned for a further two series. It is the story of Detective Inspector Hardy (David Tennant) and Detective Sergeant Miller (Olivia Colman) and their struggle to find the killer of 11 year-old Danny Latimer. The show is gripping and leaves the audience in constant suspicion of nearly every character on the show. It is mentally taxing as the audience is constantly attempting to work out the killer. Overall Broadchurch was an amazing show and it was a shame when it was announced that it would not be returning for a series four.

American Horror Story

American Horror Story is an anthology show, meaning none of the seasons are supposed to be linked. So far six seasons have finished with the seventh still on the air. The show has been renewed for another two seasons as well. The thing I like about this show is that you can never get bored, due to none of the seasons (Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, and Cult) being linked on the surface it means that there is always going to be something new with each season. Although there show claims to be an anthology there are some events and characters in the show that link some of the seasons together. This makes a lot of viewers try to make constant connections within the show. There have been recurring characters that have been in a number of the seasons.

Orange Is the New Black

Orange Is the New Black is a show about Piper Chapman, who gets sentenced to spend time in prison for her association with a drug smuggler ten years prior. The show follows the prison life of Piper and the hardships she is faced with. I like this TV show as it is an interesting plot that doesn't just look at Piper but also the other characters she meets in there. It explores their back stories to show how normal people can suddenly end up in prison.

Black Mirror

Black Mirror is an anthology series where none of the episodes in each season are linked. It was originally a Channel 4 show for the first two series but was taken over by Netflix for series 3. It explores a dark, dystopian future we headed towards due to the use of technology. It explores the dark consequences that may be a result of new technologies and shows how damaging they really could be. This show is gripping and extremely scary with regard to where it predicts our society to be headed. I enjoyed this show due to there never being a recurring actor or theme. It is as if each episode was set in a different universe as they had no relation to one another.
